Few species whose existences are threatened by external forces—at the very least, this is what I believe—do not turn to unhealthy coping mechanisms to suppress overwhelming feelings of fear.

Most prefer to ignore the truth.

The elites create a context. The masses accept it.

And so began the collective cultivation of these unhealthy coping mechanisms. Just as our ancestors had begun to develop the intellectual capacity to develop and engage in city planning, business, architecture, and design, they had also chosen to ignore the precarious circumstances of our survival. Forty thousand years of living like this, even after having built a grand and splendid city so perfectly situated in the “safest possible location” …

Well, at the very least, the city’s existence was a testament to Beinakan intelligence. It was not, however, a testament to sound judgment.

Many Beinakans had chosen to use a type of nitrifying bacteria to construct the outer layers of their cocoon-shaped abodes. The bacteria, in solid form, were very, very thick.

A pitiful attempt to shield their homes in the event of disaster, should a heat current come to be.

All in vain.

No substance in existence would be able to withstand the wrath of the heat currents.

There never will be.
